Yesterday, I invited y’all to email me your questions about Book Deal Breakthrough, and I’m so grateful that y’all took me up on it! I know your inboxes are wildly full these days, but for folks who’ve been sitting with that “Book Deal Breakthrough” browser tab open for a few weeks and are wondering whether or not to take the leap, I wanted to share a lightning round of super-quick answers to your Most Asked questions.

The tl;dr before we get into it: Today is the LAST DAY to sign up for Book Deal Breakthrough, my 10-week intensive in which we use the practical and the magical to FINALLY get you published!

FAQ #1: What if I can’t attend all of the live sessions?

Baby girl, no one can attend every single live session of a two-month class! Stop expecting perfection out of yourself! (I see my fellow “take everything literally” neurodivergent queens out there!)

All of our workshops and Q&As are recorded for this very reason. Also, you can submit questions for any Q&A you’re going to miss in advance.

FAQ #2: What if my imminent next career goal is NOT to get an agent?

So I realize I might have fucked up by talking about “get an agent” so much — I used that step of looking for an agent more as a barometer of where you are in the project then the actual goal of getting an agent, even though most BDB folks come into the cohort seeking traditional publication.

You can be agented and take Book Deal Breakthrough. You can NOT want an agent and take Book Deal Breakthrough. It’s valuable either way if traditional publishing is in any way part of your career goals.

FAQ #3: What if my book isn’t done? How “far along” do I have to be?

This is the most common question I get by far.

Maybe this will help: folks who applied for BDB scholarships who only had an outline or were in “I want to start writing this book” stage were rejected. Because we get into the nitty gritty of what you want your book to be doing in the world, this is a container for folks who know what their book is and know what they want it to do.

It’s hard for a ritual about meeting the Spirits of the book to be truly effective and helpful if you don’t know what the book is yet, y’know?

That said! Knowing what your book is is going to be different for everyone. Some folks need a full draft. Others are 20K in and understand exactly the shape of the project and what they’re going for. To an extent, whether you are a Discovery writer or an Outliner will inform what “knowing enough” means.

Ultimately, I can’t make that decision for you! I’d invite you to look at the specific weekly themes on the course page to see if you feel those would be helpful for where you’re at in this stage.

FAQ #4: I have multiple book projects — is this still a good fit?

That’s so cool! salutes you from the writing ~too many things at once~ club

tl;dr: Yes. There are already people signed up for the second cohort who have multiple book projects. We contain multitudes.

If you’ve got other questions today (Monday, Aug 31st!), feel free to respond to this email and we can figure out together whether BDB is a good fit!

Trust, I’ve talked plenty of people out of it 😂 I know it’s a financial investment, and I will be honest with you (as I’ve been honest with others!) about whether or not this will be supportive for where you’re at.

Jeanna is an inspired and kind guide through both the esoteric and mystical world of magic, and the gritty practicalities of publishing. I have so much more respect for myself as a writer, since Jeanna took us all so seriously, and treated us as publication-worthy. I feel a deep integration of the eclectic parts of me from this experience, and I would definitely recommend this course. The people in the cohort were awesome. I learned so much. I want to take it again!

If you’ve been stalled out and need a jolt of motivation and accountability to get your book moving,

if you’ve been questioning whether Spirit cares at all about this project, and are too worried about doing witchcraft wrong to even try,

if you love your book but you aren’t sure how to get it out in the world, or what your next steps even might be,

then Book Deal Breakthrough is for you.
